025 – What is the Purpose of Fasting:

You need to fast properly before the Lord:

You can make fast a wonderful experience for yourself.

From the beginning of creation, Adam and Eve to us today, the Lord’s people have fasted to help them to draw nearer to Heavenly Father and to worship Him, and to help find answers.

Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

Luke 4:2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

Luke 4:3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Jesus Christ fasted for 40 days, which showed us the importance of fasting.

He did it for 40 days, but too fast for 40 days may not be required of us.

We need to pray and fast often for answers and to receive personal revelations.

When you fast, it means you are to go without any food and drink of any sort.

Medical reports states that an occasional fast is good for your body and it will helps your mind to be more lively, energetic, and full of zip.

Fasting helps to cleanse the body of unneeded materials.

Your fasting needs to be purposeful, not just going without food and drink.

When you fast and pray, you need to concentrate on real needs and not just wants and needs to be more spiritual in purpose.

What is the Lord’s will for you and your needs?

Fasting without prayers has no real spiritual meaning to it.

Prayer and fasting is mentioned all through the scriptures.

All fasts need to start with a prayer and end with a prayer and it needs to be a sincere prayer.

When you fast, it needs to be with real reasons or needs.

By fasting and prayers, you can conquer your weaknesses, trials, hardships, sufferings, difficulties, and many more issues you may have or need.

There will be times when you want or need to pray and fast for others which may have needs to overcome or a large group may want to pray and fast.

There will be times when a family member or others are sick and need your prayers and fast.

When you truly love the Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, you will fast often to be closer to them, like Jesus and other prophet did.

Also through prayer and fasting you can learn to know the truth as the prophets did in the scriptures.

To learn the things that the Lord may have for you can only be found through prayer and fasting for those things He is ready to give you, but you need to pray and fast to get them and it may be given in He due time, and not your time.

Praying and fasting, you will get answers by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Praying and fasting can help you to understand the scriptures and the truth that is in them or help others too.

When suffering, grief, sorrow, mourning, sadness, trouble, adversity, poverty, difficulties, and sin, you can always turn to the Lord for help with prays and fasting.

Praying and fasting can humble you and help you to come closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Matthew 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Matthew 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

Matthew 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Matthew 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Your prayers and fasting should be personal and it should be between you and Heavenly Father only.

Do not be like hypocrites which, just goes through the motions of praying.

So, when you pray and fast, you need to look your best and be happy.

Matthew 6:16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Matthew 6:17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

Matthew 6:18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

Matthew 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Prayer and fasting in private, brings you closer to the Lord then the blessing will follow in His due time.

His ways are higher than our ways and He knows what is best for us.

You want your treasures to be waiting for you when you finally go to heaven.

Your feelings, thoughts, opinions, posture, attitude, and manner will greatly influence your personal experience you will have with the prayer and fast.

You need to make a special day each month to fast to help you to come closer to the Lord.

A general fast should be at least two consecutive meals for that day, which is 24 hours from the last meal.

Example; let’s say your dinner meal was about 5:00 pm Saturday, then fasting for two meals on Sunday, would be breakfast and lunch, then 5:00 pm Sunday you would have your dinner meal.

Small children and up who are able should fast.

Being forced to fast is not the way of the Lord.

Mothers who are pregnant may not fast.

Anyone who is sick may not fast.

Anyone who is taking medication may not fast.

All who are physically able to fast, should.

Children who are over the age of accountability and have been baptized are encouraged to fast, but never be forced.

In our fasts we should ask to be forgiven of our sins.

To ask for the strength to overcome our faults and to forgive others.

In our fast, you can ask the Lord to strengthen your testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

You can gain a stronger testimony by sharing it with others when you are fasting, for the Holy Ghost can strengthen you.

Do you enjoy the testimonies of others?

Malachi 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

Malachi 3:9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

The generous cost of two meals makes for a fast offering to the Lord, which is given to your church leader, and it is not tithing.

Why do you need to contribute to the church fast offering?

Fasting each month, the Lord is asking us to help the poor and needy.

The more you give in the fast offering and generously, the Lord promised to bless you.

When you give generously to the fast offering, you become partners with the Lord in helping the less fortunate and poor.

You Are Blessed When You Fast:

Your fast must be a true and real fast and not one because you did not eat a meal or two.

It has to be a proper fast between you and the Lord.

For He know your heart.

Then the blessing will be poured out on you.

Isaiah 58:3 Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.

Isaiah 58:5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

Isaiah 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

Isaiah 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

Isaiah 58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.

Isaiah 58:9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

The Lord tells us to feed and clothe the needy.

With a real and true fast, the Lord promises us that we can receive peace, improved health, and great spiritual guidance.

When you truly call upon the Lord, He promises to answer your fast and prayers.

A purposeful fast will improve your life and give you great blessings.

Fasting brings us out of darkness to the light and we come closer to the Lord.

Proper fasting can teach you self control, strengthen your character, and learn to control your appetites and passions.

When you learn the fast and teach your children and others how to develop the bond with the Lord and how it strengthens you to overcome any temptations in your life.

When you fast and pray, it gives you greater spiritual power.

You can develop your faith and knowledge of the Lord and His gospel.

So when you are lost, confused, unsure, unclear, perplexed, disoriented, and bewildered, fasting and prayers can help you greatly through the guidance of the Lord and Holy Ghost.

Zechariah 4:7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain:

Through fasting and praying and staying worthy, the Lord can make mountains into molehills.

As you fast, the Lord will increase your power to convert others to the Lord.

Thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

True prayers and true fasting brings revelations and righteous acts.

KJV – Additional Scriptures:

Luke 2:37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

Exodus 34:27 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

Exodus 34:28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

Acts 13:3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

How long is Eternity?

This life is very short compared to Eternity, this is a test for us here.

Whether we live a few moments in the mother’s womb or 150 years old, compared to the Eternities, this life is nothing, we are here to choose the right and marry and raise a family of children unto God.

Families are forever with God.

The Apostle Paul talks about the 3 Kingdoms or Glories.

1 Corinthians 15:40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial : but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

1 Corinthians 15:41 There is one glory of the sun , and another glory of the moon , and another glory of the stars : for one star differeth from another star in glory.

Three Kingdoms of Glory:

There are three kingdoms of glory: the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, and the telestial kingdom. The glory we inherit will depend on the depth of our conversion, expressed by our obedience to the Lord's commandments. It will depend on the manner in which we have "received the testimony of Jesus".

Celestial Kingdom – Like the - Sun :

The celestial kingdom is the highest of the three kingdoms of glory.

Those in this kingdom will dwell forever in the presence of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.

This should be our goal: to inherit celestial glory and to help others receive that great blessing as well.

Such a goal is not achieved in one attempt; it is the result of a lifetime of righteousness and constancy of purpose.

The celestial kingdom is the place prepared for those who have "received the testimony of Jesus" and been "made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, who wrought out this perfect atonement through the shedding of his own blood".

To inherit this gift, we must receive the ordinances of salvation, keep the commandments, and repent of our sins.

"All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom of God; "Also all that shall die henceforth without a knowledge of it, who would have received it with all their hearts, shall be heirs of that kingdom;

"For I, the Lord, will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts".

"I also beheld that all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven".

There are three degrees within the celestial kingdom.

To be exalted in the highest degree and continue eternally in family relationships, we must enter into "the new and everlasting covenant of marriage" and be true to that covenant.

In other words, temple marriage is a requirement for obtaining the highest degree of celestial glory.

All who are worthy to enter into the new and everlasting covenant of marriage will have that opportunity, whether in this life or the next.

Terrestrial Kingdom – Like the - Moon :

Those who inherit terrestrial glory will "receive of the presence of the Son, but not of the fulness of the Father.

Wherefore, they are bodies terrestrial, and not bodies celestial, and differ in glory as the moon differs from the sun".

Generally speaking, individuals in the terrestrial kingdom will be honorable people "who were blinded by the craftiness of men".

This group will include members of the Church who were "not valiant in the testimony of Jesus".

It will also include those who rejected the opportunity to receive the gospel in mortality but who later received it in the postmortal spirit world.

Love Heavenly Father, Love the Lord Jesus Christ, and Love the Holy Ghost, Be Beloved, Be Holy, Bowels of Mercies, Do All Your Duties, Forbearing One Another, Forgiving, Helping the Poor, Humbleness of Mind, Keep The Commandments, Kindness, Longsuffering, Meekness, Repent and Forsake

Telestial Kingdom – Like the - Stars :

As one star differ from another star in glory.

Telestial glory will be reserved for individuals who "received not the gospel of Christ, neither the testimony of Jesus".

These individuals will receive their glory after being redeemed from spirit prison, which is sometimes called hell.

Anger, Blasphemy, Concupiscence, Covetousness, Discord, Disobedience, Doing Contrary to the Laws of God, Envy, Evil, False Witness, Filthy Communication, Fornication, Gluttony, Graven Image, Greed, Hath, Did Not Honour Thy Father and Mother, Idolatry, Inordinate Affection, Keep the Sabbath Day, Laziness, Lust, Lying, Malice, Mischief, Neglecting, No Other Gods, Piety, Pride, Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbour, Shalt Not Commit Adultery, Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighour's Property, Shalt Not Kill, Shalt Not Steal, Sloth, Take Lords Name In Vain, Triumphing over Others, Uncleanness, Wicked Imaginations, Wrath, and Etc.

Perdition :

Some people will not be worthy to dwell in any kingdom of glory.

A place of outer darkness.

They will be called "the sons of perdition" and will have to "abide a kingdom which is not a kingdom of glory".

This will be the state of "those who know [God's] power, and have been made partakers thereof, and suffered themselves through the power of the devil to be overcome, and to deny the truth and defy [God's] power".

Hands that Shed Innocent Blood

Denied the Holy Ghost

The Lord Jesus Christ, wants the best for you in these Latter-days and it is this sealed book just for you which is not the Bible. The Bible and this other Book will be one in His hand in the Last Days before Armageddon and go to all nations round the world.

Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

In the Sacred and Holy Name of Jesus Christ, Amen
