015 - Who is the Lord’s Covenant People:

What is the Nature of Covenants:

What is a covenant?

Why are the children of God or His Saints, called a covenant people?

From the time of Adam and Eve, the Lord has made covenants with His worthy children on the earth.

When Heavenly Father’s children make vows, make promises, make oaths; the people will know what Heavenly Father expects of them, when the read the scriptures, what type of blessings the people can expect from Heavenly Father.

We the children (you and I), can better carry out Heavenly Father’s plan on earth.

We who covenant with the Heavenly Father and with whom Heavenly Father will make covenants are known as His covenant people.

The members (are saints) of His Church are part of the Lord’s covenant people.

In the scriptures; the word covenant means a sacred agreement or sacred promise between Heavenly Father and His children or a group of people.

When we make a covenant with Heavenly Father, He promises a blessing for obedience to a particular commandments.

For there are many commandments beyond the 10 commandments.

Heavenly Father sets the terms to each covenant, and He reveals these terms to His prophets and through the scriptures.

When we keep and obey the terms of the covenant, He gives us the promised blessing for that covenant.

If we do not keep and obey that covenant, He will withhold the associated blessing, and in some instance a covenant has a penalty connected with it.

Example; we covenant with the Lord at baptism to take upon us His name.

The Lord promises that as we repent and are baptized, and we endure to the end, we will be saved.

But when we do not keep the covenant of baptism, the penalty is that we will not be saved in the end.

When we partake of the sacrament, we are making a covenant with the Lord and remembering our covenant at baptism and keep all of His commandments.

By being worthy, He promised that the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit will be with us always.

We need to be covenant keeping people, we need to make sacred covenants and be faithful and obedient to all commandments.

Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Genesis 9:8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,

Genesis 9:9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;

Genesis 9:10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.

Genesis 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

Genesis 9:12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:

Genesis 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

Genesis 9:14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

Genesis 9:15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

Genesis 9:16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

Genesis 9:17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

Exodus 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

In your prayers you have made promises to the Lord and you have received blessings He has promised you for keeping these covenants and vows.

We are all entitled to receive the gospel and scriptures, the blessings of the priesthood, and all of the ordinances of exaltation to live Heavenly Father.

With the power of the priesthood, we would be able to carry the gospel to all nations of the earth.

For the Lord wants all nations to be blessed.

Genesis 17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

Genesis 17:4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

Genesis 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

Genesis 17:6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

Genesis 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

Genesis 17:8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

Genesis 17:9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

Those who are members of His Church are a covenant people.

Daniel 9:4 And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

Ezekiel 17:14 That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.

Numbers 30:2 If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.

We need to remember that comes blessings, also comes responsibilities with covenants.

For as many who receive and keep Heavenly Father’s gospel and scriptures will be called by His name, and will be accounted as the seed of Abraham, shall have eternal life.

Many of us are adopted through the covenant made with Abraham of eternal life with Heavenly Father and live the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

We need to be obedient so we can have eternal life through the covenant of Abraham.

Under that covenant, we have the right to receive help and guidance of the Holy Ghost in our lives.

Families can receive all the blessings of the priesthood.

We all can have eternal life in the celestial kingdom (like the Sun) where Heavenly Father will live, this is the highest blessing.

But remember, we have greater responsibilities, and not be like the world.

Once we received these covenants and blessings, we need to share this with the whole world as missionary work, for every member of His Church is a missionary.

Only His covenant people, has the responsibilities to preach His gospel to the whole world.

The Lord is bound when we do what He asks in the scriptures and make covenants with, but when we do not keep them, we have no promise.

We are condemned before Heavenly Father, when we reject our covenants we made with Him.

We need to refrain from all sins, or a great judgment will come upon you.

Luke 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

We need to be covenant and vow and promise keeping, because it is eternal.

When we sins, there will be a greater condemnation.

When the Lord establishes His New and Everlasting Covenant in the Latter-days.

This will be in the fulness of times in the Latter-days.

Ephesians 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

The fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ is called the new and everlasting covenant, means all the scriptures and teachings of the prophets will come together in the Latter-days.

Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Ezekiel 37:16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel his companions:

Ezekiel 37:17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

Isaiah 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

With the Bible known to the whole world and another Book or another scriptures of Joseph of Ephraim, for Judah is not of Ephraim, it is another Book to come forth in the Latter-days by an angel, it has to be printed into a Book of scriptures too, and go forth to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people of the world in the Latter-days.

A worldwide Church will be restored in the Latter-days with the fulness of all of the scriptures, Bible and this other Book of scriptures.

Heavenly Father is an everlasting God and His covenant is everlasting and un-changing.

The Lord has given this same covenant unto His prophets, but over time the people fell away from the gospel, in this sense it is not new.

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ calls it new, because each time the gospel is restored back to the earth after being taken from the earth, it is new to the people of the earth who receive the gospel.

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jeremiah 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Ezekiel 37:26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.

Ezekiel 37:27 My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

His sanctuary or tabernacle is His Temple in the Latter-days, in our day.

When we accept His new and everlasting covenant, we agree to repent and forsake, be baptized clean of our sins, receive the Holy Ghost,

2 Chronicles 2:4 Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.

2 Chronicles 2:5 And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.

Ezra 3:10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.

Ezekiel 44:4 Then brought he me the way of the north gate before the house: and I looked, and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD: and I fell upon my face.

Ezekiel 44:5 And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.

Luke 1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

1 Kings 6:17 And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.

Ezra 4:1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

We receive ordinances in His House or Temple, and we receive the covenant of temple marriage forever, and we follow and obey every commandment of the Lord.

We keep these covenants and ordinances to the end of our lives.

Keeping our covenants and ordinances, our Heavenly Father promises us that we can enter into exaltation in the celestial kingdom and be with Him.

We as mortals have a hard time understanding, but with the help of the Holy Ghost and being worthy, we gain understanding.

The commandments are for our good and benefit, so we can live with Him again.
